You should always exercise good business judgement when offering delivery services to ensure your safety and those of other Canadian residents!
Where you choose to park on a delivery run can have an impact on your health and safety. Below are some tips that can help to reduce the likelihood of encountering a hazard:
- Avoid illegal parking. Zones are often excluded from parking for health and safety reasons or designated for heavy vehicle use.
- Attempt to legally park as close to your destination as possible.
- When at the delivery address – where practical – park in the driveway or at a minimum, on the same side of the road of the residence (if this can be done legally). If this is not possible, check the roadway prior to crossing the street.
- Where possible, park in well-lit areas. This reduces risks associated with slips, trips and falls.
- Always lock your vehicle or secure your bike with an appropriate lock.
- If you are not able to find a legal parking spot, contact the customer where possible. They may have another parking solution or be able to change the handoff location of the delivery.
- Exercise good business judgement – if a parking spot does not look practical (i.e. the size, location or lack of safety), then find another parking spot.
