T4A now available in the Courier Portal

Submit your SIN for tax info.

CRA regulations require couriers to provide Skip with their Social Insurance Number (SIN) or Business Number (BN).

SIN/BN will only be used for tax purposes. We prioritize the security, privacy, and confidentiality of your information.

These FAQs should answer most other questions:

Where can I see my T4A slip?

Your T4A slip will be available in the Courier Portal by the end of February. To access it, you will need to follow these steps:

  • Log in with your courier account.
  • Once you’re logged in, go to the sidebar by clicking on the sandwich button then click on the Banking Info option.
  • Once you are on the earnings page, click the DOWNLOAD T4A FILE  button.

Who can see my T4A slip?

Your T4A document will be available via Courier Portal access and access is restricted to you only.

Can I download, print, and save my T4A slip?

Yes, you can download and save your T4A document from the Courier Portal once it is available.

I did not receive a T4

All couriers who provided their SIN/BN number by  February 16, 2024 received a T4A. You can also determine your total earnings (excluding cash tips) in 2023 by viewing  and adding your earnings statements in the Courier Portal. We are unable to provide you with a T4A at this time.

As an independent contractor, you determine and remit taxes for earnings made on the Skip Network.

What if there is a discrepancy between the T4 I received and my calculations over the year?

You can also determine your total earnings (excluding cash tips) in 2023 by viewing and adding your earnings statements in the Courier Portal. We are unable to make any changes to your T4A at this time.

Please note that your 2023 T4A amount:

  • Includes any earnings from the last week in 2022 (paid in 2023).
  • Excludes any earnings from the last week in 2023 (paid in 2024).
  • Includes any stated driver tips.
  • Is not reduced by any Fast Cash Fees or Fast Cash Deposits.
  • Excludes any GST/HST/QST reimbursements.
  • Is not reduced by any other adjustments not related to your earnings (ex. garnishment withholding).

As a result, if you are adding your earnings based on the direct deposit amount in your weekly statement summary, you may need to adjust your calculations to reflect the above details.

Can I see all previous T4A slips?

Yes, all of your previous T4A receipts will be available in the Courier Portal and viewable at any time.

What’s the difference between a T4A and a T4?

A T4 slip is issued to employees while a T4A is for self-employed/independent contractors.

Why are you asking me to enter my SIN/BN?

To comply with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) regulations, gig companies must report income earned by independent contractors (couriers). As such, we need your Social Insurance Number (SIN) or Business Number (BN).

Your SIN/BN is a crucial component of this process as it helps Skip to accurately report your earnings and comply with tax obligations.

Does providing SIN/BN affect my income reporting obligation?

We cannot provide you with financial advice. We can confirm that once we submit the T4A, CRA will have a record of the amount you earned on the Skip network for the tax year. You can speak with a financial professional if you have any concerns.

Will my access to the Skip network be revoked if I don’t provide my SIN/BN?

Yes. All couriers must provide their SIN/BN to ensure compliance with CRA regulations and remain eligible to work on the Skip network.

What is Skip planning to use my SIN/BN for?

Your SIN/BN will be used for tax reporting purposes only, in accordance with the CRA requirements. This includes the issuance of the T4A slips to report your earnings accurately.

How will Skip store this information and ensure it is safe?

We prioritize the security, privacy, and confidentiality of your information. For this purpose, your SIN/BN information is stored within the Skip internal software on secure and encrypted systems with restricted access and security policies. We would like to remind you to exercise caution regarding phishing messages.

Only enter your SIN/BN within the Courier Portal.

SkipTheDishes will never request your SIN/BN information or your account password via phone calls, email responses, or via external web pages other than the official Courier Portal. Remember not to share your account password with anyone.

If you have any questions, please contact us through our courier support form here.

Who will have access to my SIN/BN?

Employee access to your SIN will be limited. Skip will share your SIN/BN with employees who require access to the SIN to do their job. Otherwise, your SIN/BN will only be shared externally with the Canada Revenue Agency.

Can I review or update my SIN/BN information later?

Once provided, you will be unable to update your SIN/BN again for 7 days, so please ensure you enter the correct information. Providing an invalid SIN/BN can lead to discrepancies in your tax reporting with CRA, causing wrong taxation and leading to an incorrect tax assessment. If you need any support, please contact us through our new courier support form here.

Who can I contact for any concerns regarding my SIN/BN?

If you have any questions regarding the collection of SIN/BN, feel free to contact us through our new courier support form here.

What if I entered an incorrect SIN/BN? How can I update it?

You will be able to update your SIN/BN within the next 7 days after you provided the incorrect one.

Can I provide SIN/BN anytime during the year?

Yes. You can provide your SIN/BN at any time. To receive your T4A summary, ensure you provide your SIN/BN before the end of the fiscal year.
